There are two reactions to me wanting to pursue a career in the medical field that actually forced me into a spiral:
Pediatrician: What kind of job do you want to do when you grow up?
Adolescent Me: A pediatrician.
Pediatrician: Well you can’t be a pediatrician if you are fat.
Me staring into the pregnant belly of a cruel beast: *silence

30 Year Old Me: I feel the nerve to go back to school for a doctorate, but I want one in medicine.
Colleague: Ooooh, what hot guy at your doctor’s office has your eye?
Me, too ready to roll my eyes and knuck: I don’t need validation from a man to study medicine.
