More Ways To Tap In!

New Year, New Realities

New Year, New Realities

In the wake of years past, I, today, am thankful for my sight. For language and soundscapes downloaded into my memories. Food. Fruity frescos. Fat foods eaten too fast. Frozen ration food. Filled with filler foods. Family held recipes that take so long we forget how good food tastes after stew. So, we keep microwavable food contained far past fresh. I am for the tears that keep coming. For empathy. For grief. I am happy to say that today, I am in control of my body. In control of who I let seep my energy and who I pull from. When I feel unsafe, I know how to breath myself back to calm, down to earth, and through my fear. Today, I am aware of what I have done to prepare myself to safely transition into this new iteration of myself as an entrepreneur, writer, educator, and evolving being.  Because this was the dream in a way, it continues to feel like one as I ground myself into my new reality. One in which I will be in so many communities at once, responsible for how I show up and for all of them honestly. This new year, I am here in the present with you, but the future is what I’m after, to shape and mold into safer spaces for people to thrive.

Setting intentions for the new year with vision boards, journaling, prayer, and meditation is impactful when visualizing and calling those realities towards you. The act of recording your intentions, in whichever way soothes you, will free you in preparation to receive those blessings.

Avoiding the Pitfalls of Dreaming Too Big by Setting S.M.A.R.T Goals

Wearing so many different hats as a creative entrepreneur has its good and bad days. Having autonomy of my work has always been important to me, especially as a child of the rapidly evolving technology boom in the global south and emergence of social media and growing digital economies. As I grow into a more confident writer, artist, and designer each day, establishing S.M.A.R.T goals for my creative business will steer me away from dreaming up projects so big that they are never realized due to lack of proper planning.

Specific

Does the goal clearly identify the objective? You want to set a goal that is much more than an initiative to succeed, but an intention set for a project to succeed. One of my goals this week is to get more visitors to Ti Mache by running daily advertisements of my creations.

Measurable

What steps can you take to ensure this goal is met? What tasks must be completed to reach the goal? This allows you to evaluate your success or failure based off benchmarks you’ve set for yourself.

Achievable

Is this a goal that is within your scope of capabilities? Creating goals that are out of our reach is the easiest way to remain discouraged. Instead, think of goal setting as a tiered system you are putting into place to complete multiple important tasks at a time.

Realistic

Has this goal been set with all things considered? Is this a goal that is a need right now? Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should.

Time-Bound

When does this goal need to be completed? A goal with no end is a dream, or nightmare if you’ve entered a failure sinkhole.
