During the spring of 2017, I participated in a documentary photography course at Florida State University. I had returned to South Florida as a transient student during my final semester of undergrad at Florida State University. At the time, I was taking a Haitian literature course being taught in Kreole, which was my first time completing academic coursework in my mother tongue.
Weekly visits to Little Haiti and the cultural center allowed me to connect with photographers like Carl Juste, and Woosler Delisfort, along with playright, activist, and Liberi Mapou owner Jan Mapou. We exhibited photographs taken over the course of the semester at The Little Haiti Cultural Complex's “Focus on Little Haiti.”
